Pet Portrait Commissions – How It Works
Commissioning a pet portrait is a lovely way to celebrate your furry friend. I use the best professional-quality pencils and paper to ensure that your portrait will be resistant to fading over time. Here’s what to expect from the process:
-
Join the Waiting List
I accept a limited number of commissions each month to give each one the care and attention it deserves. To reserve a spot, you can either email me or use the contact form on my website. -
Planning Your Portrait
Around 2–3 weeks before I start your portrait, I’ll be in touch to go over the details. At this point, you’ll send me some good-quality photos of your pet. We’ll choose the best image together and agree on the portrait size, layout, and pose so that it captures your pet’s unique personality. -
Deposit
A £25 deposit is required to secure your booking, along with signing a commission agreement form. This confirms your place in the queue and helps me plan my time effectively. Once the deposit is paid, I’ll keep you updated as your portrait progresses. -
Final Approval & Delivery
When your portrait is complete, I’ll send you a photo to make sure you’re happy with the result. If any tweaks are needed, we can discuss them then. Once you’ve approved the portrait, the remaining balance is due. I’ll then carefully package and post your artwork. Each portrait will come mounted and backed, packaged in acid-free tissue and cellophane.
Getting a good photo
To create a truly special and lifelike portrait, I rely on high-quality reference photos that clearly capture your pet’s unique features and personality. The best photos are taken in natural daylight (avoid flash), with your pet facing the camera and their eyes in sharp focus. Try to get down to their level and take a few shots from different angles, especially of their face. If possible, include close-ups that show the details of their eyes, fur colour, and markings. The clearer, well-lit photos you can provide, the better I can capture your beloved pet just the way you see them.
